REVIEWS
Dear Windy,
I received your book today. When I opened the front cover and read your inscription, I couldn't help but cry. I can not tell you how much I appreciated that personal touch.
I can tell a lot of time and effort went into this project. I just want you to know that it is appreciated by many. As soon as I had a chance to look through it, I took it over to my mom's. I hadn't told her what the book was. I just handed it to her just as I did, she began to cry. More tears came as she looked at the pictures of my dad. She is so touched and excited. She has now found the perfect gift for my brothers birthday. I have mailed you another check for another book. She was hoping that you would once again add your personal touch and inscribe the book to Scott in memory of his father Sonny Hedrick, as you did so lovingly for me. I can not wait to see his face.  (his birthday is next week, I won't have to wait long.) You have been a blessing to our family.

    My sincere gratitude,
    Loreena Desenberg

    Windy,
I just finished reading your book Thunder in the Desert. Working my first job when I was five years old at Balboa Stadium for the San Diego Racing Association, 27 years as a corner flayman for the California Racing Association and the first 22 years of the Copper World Classic brought back many memories.
It was always a pleasure to work a race that Lealand McSpadden was in. From the wave he gave each of us on the first lap of wheelpacking to the way he helped his fellow competitors and the respect he has for the fans, he was and is a true inspiration. Many of today's drivers with IRL, NASCAR, USAC and the World of Outlaws could learn a lesson from Lealand.
Enclosed is my check for a copy of Manzanita Speedway's Desert Thunder, Limited Edition. If you could sign the book I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for the great books and for the time in reading my letter. Looking forward to reading the second book.

    May God Bless

Windy,
Your book Desert Thunder means more to me and my family than most people will ever know. The first night I purchased the book from you it was like being a kid at Christmas again. My husband and I sat in the stands at Manzy and fought over who got to see it and what years to look at first (I was happy to point out to him that I was featured in the book more than he was). We even called a few friends and had them come to the track that evening to purchase one. This book is a family treasure that we will pass on for generations. I was able to sit down with my children and show them our family "racing" tree. We can not thank you enough for putting these precious memories in print for all of us share. It is our glory book!

Windy,
I grew up listening to you at the track. Phoenix was my home and Manzy was my track (although I spent time at Beeline as well). Gene Brown, Leland McSpadden, Darrel Dockery, Wayne Weiler and on-and-on were my heroes. Later in life I went into the Navy and retired in San Diego. My experience with the track, drivers, cars and you has lasted a lifetime. At the time, I hung around with the late Corky Larson and a bit with Rick Stewart in the shops on the corner of 35th and Broadway (near Skeet Gibson's shop). When I found out about your books it was important to me that I got copies. You were kind in your words to me when I asked about them. They have lived up to everything I expected. Both books are WONDERFUL!!  The stories and pictures help me remember (as I get older). Dirt track racing is in my blood because of your announcing. God bless you and yours...

  Thanks for everything.

Windy,
When you started compiling, "Thunder in the Desert", I listened to stories of days gone by , read pages not yet published and tried to identify pictures of race cars and drivers that you gathered for the book.   Then, I waited with anticipation for "Thunder in the Desert," to come from the printers.  You didn't disappoint any of us Windy, the book is so rich with the history of Manzanita Speedway and the people that made that history that I could not put it down.  I came home from the races on a Friday night, book in hand, looked up and the sun was up and it was time to go back to the Saturday night show.
As soon as "Thunder in the Desert" went to the printer, the next book, "Manzanita Speedway's Desert Thunder," was in the making.  This time I knew the racer cars and drivers you tossed at me and I was more familiar with the history of the track having worked there for almost twenty years.  I was not surprised to find that my own family helped create some of that history racing Late Models, Street Stocks, Mod Stocks, Bombers and Modifieds.  It is a family sport and it does get in the blood.  I purchased not only my copy of  "Manzanita Speedway's Desert Thunder," but also a copy for both my son and daughter as birthday gifts.  As we celebrated in a restaurant, I gave them the books, they didn't talk much after that,  they were so engrossed in the books  and finding pictures of themselves and friends that they had forgotten, that they looked up just long enough to tell my husband and I  that  this book was the best birthday present ever.  Dinner was delicious, I don't think they even knew what they were eating.
I am amazed that one person can remember as much as you have about Manzanita Speedway and I thank you for sharing all of that knowledge with the rest of us by writing both of these  fantastic books.  You really are the voice of Manzanita Speedway.
I would like to take this time to express my thanks to you for sharing,  "Windy's Press Box", with me for the past several years.  It  has been my pleasure.

Windy,
I just received "Desert Thunder" (Limited edition #397) and "Thunder in the Desert" and man amIglad I ordered these; worth every penny spent. The quality of these are magnificent, very heavy much like an Encyclopedia.  Thumbing through looking at the pictures at first, it really brings back some memories for sure but man-o-man the stories so far are great.
Thank you so much for your time and dilligence to put something like this together. Manzy has always been the most infamous track in Arizona and you did the track and the racing  community as a whole a great service for putting this to print.

Windy,
Just a note to tell you how much your two books have meant to me. I spent several years in Arizona in early 1970's. Manzanita was where the racing was at.  I remember so many of the drivers.  That is where I got the chance to see the sprint cars run in person after having watched them on TV.  The books bring back so many memories for me.  I appreciate you so much.Keep the good work up and hope to see you one of these days.  Take care.

What a outstanding book you put together Windy. I saw the interview on Wind tunnel and Dave Despain really was excited about the book so I went to your website and contacted you and I can say that you are real gentleman and a huge advocate of the short tracks. It has
been a pleasure dealing with you and talking on the phone many times.I am
looking forward to meet you one of these days, thanks again for your
friendship.

Windy, what a incredible book you have put together. This book has to be one of the best books I have seen and read  in the racing field. Windy you made me feel like we have known each other  for years and we just met by way of the phone. The last program is really awesome. I recommend every one reading this to get a copy. Thanks again Windy and looking forward to talk to you again, your friend from the east.
